The busy gal’s morning routine

The busy gal’s morning routine

We’re all in a rush to get to work or school every morning. But if there’s one thing we shouldn’t compromise, it's our skincare routine. However, my opinion is that a good skincare routine shouldn't consume more than 5 minutes from my busy morning schedule. If you’re not a morning person like me, you will probably find yourself in serious lack of motivation to do your skincare routine properly unless you haven't just skipped the whole thing already. But trust me, our morning routine is just as important as our morning coffee.

Before we get to it, let me tell you my secret behind pulling this off: I do my ten step skincare routine every evening, which takes me 10 to 40 minutes (when I use a sheet mask).

So, the following are the five essential skincare steps that I have left for my morning routine:

First, I double cleanse (oil cleanser followed by water-based cleanser). Yes, we should do this both in the morning and evening. Double cleansing is actually important regardless of your makeup situation because it will also effectively cleanse the oil your skin produces while you're asleep.

Oil-based Cleanser: Skin Watchers - Natural Deep Cleansing Oil

Foam Cleanser: Skin Watchers - Lucid White Foam Cleanser

While I strongly advocate the double cleansing routine, I can sometimes be too lazy for it in the morning. In those cases, I simply use this gel cleanser from Etude House instead.

Next up is toner, which helps hydrate and balance the pH level of your skin. Choose a toner that works best for your skin concern. I personally prefer this rose water toner for my combination skin.

Third is essence. This is the must-have beauty product for most Korean women. In addition to prepping your skin and providing a boost of moisture, essence can be packed with anti-aging, brightening, and concentrated hydrating ingredients to give your skin the extra TLC that it deserves. This is my favorite essence.

Then, we have the moisturizing step. Moisture is the backbone of all skincare routines, so choose these products carefully. You want to go for a lightweight formula that imparts deep hydration without any leaving any residue.

Apply serum before the moisturizer. There’s no need to wait between each product. Our skin is much better at absorbing skincare products when it’s damp. And make sure each layer is thin and evenly distributed. I recommend this serum from Elizavecca.

Cream: The Etude House - Moistfull Collagen Cream is packed with super collagen water and baobab water that will keep your skin moist and bouncy all day long.

Last but not least, we have the all-important sunscreen. This step is one you should never skip because SPF is essential for retaining a healthy skin. Use sunscreen no matter how the weather is, and if you haven't already tried it, I strongly recommend you try the All Around Safe Block Waterproof Sun Milk from Missha for a new sunscreen experience.

So summarize, I like to keep my morning routine short and sweet. I wear makeup most days, so I don’t want to apply too many products underneath. But this will of course depend on the season and how my skin feels. So, if you consider yourself a busy gal like me, I hope you have learned a thing or two from my cheats!
